    Default Electric boot problems

I've got a 'Design' estate which comes with an auto boot as standard - you know, press button to open, and press button to close.

The car is 2 years old, and I have been having probs with the boot not closing. The car has been to the dealers 4 times in the last fews weeks. They have so far replaced the motor and the struts. This has improved the situation but not got rid of the problem alltogether.

The problem is that when the boot sticks half way closed, it is then difficult to shut it manually, because there is obviously tension there due to the fact that it is connected to the motor.

Any suggestions ? How do I escalate the problem within Vauxhall and get the the problem fixed once and for all ?????

    Thanks.....

Take it back into the dealer and tell them your not happy with their repair as it still has not cured the problem. See what they do. If they say tough its all we can do then its time to contact VX customer care.

the problem is with the potentiometer with the assembly.. You can remove it and try to disassemble and clean the carbon tracks, or a replacement is about £50 from vauxhall... its the little thing which houses a wheel and has 3 wires coming from it to a connector and held in by 2 torx screws.

got the same problem with mine, only shuts halfway, cleaned the potentiometer, and still the same so got a new one and still the same !!!! thing is if you put a bit of pressure on the tailgate with your hand when it is closing it will go all the way down !! bizarre.the left hand gas strut has a spring in it to assist it so you could replace it with just a gas strut so there wont be as much resistance, but it probably wont open because it doesn't use the motor to open just the struts.so i dont know what the answer is.i retro fitted mine so could convert it back to non power tailgate. cheers shane

thats weird... wonder if its meeting some resistance and stopping..?

Also have you tried opening and closing it manually 3 times to calibrate its start stop positions? (info from TIS)

Yeah same hear ive just cleaned the tracks and levered the contacts out a bit for a better contact but still only closes half way, what i have noticed is there is a cable goes into the off side strut and that appears to be worn and the casing cracked at the bottom of the strut, I wonder if the cable inside is corroded or damaged

There should NOT be a spring on there...

left strut defiantly has a spring inside the plastic housing, part number on the strut is correct for the vectra c with power tailgate, you cant see the spring you have to move one of the plastic covers on the strut.had another play with it today and if you set the tailgate shutting and stop it with you hand you can hear the clutch slip and the tailgate stops working, where as if you just let the tailgate come down and stop by it self halfway it just shuts off like there is no power to the motor no clicking or clutch slip.there is a motor on ebay for sale and one of the pictures shows it in two halves and at the top where the cable comes in there is a micro switch ? no idea what that does.there's also a weird round looking device on the gearbox that has two wires going to it? the last thing with two wires is the motor itself.
