Smile Signum 1.9 CDTi 16v Economy

I did a 300 mile round trip up to Northumberland on Sunday and tried to get decent economy. I kept the cruise on the motorway at about 67 mph and on the country lanes was doing between 55 mph and 65 mph with a few full power overtakes, everyone overtook me on the motorway but on the country lanes I overtook everyone.

I had filled up before setting off and filled up again when I returned, the mpg worked out to 54.9, pretty good I think, I thought it might nudge 50 but not over, shows the DPF does not effect economy and it is all down to speed.

I should mention I have a Spider box, don't know if it helps or not.

If 54.9 was calculated, that's very impressive if it was the reading from the trip computer, maybe less so

The spider box should have 2 maps running, a performance map and an economy map. It sounds like the economy map is doing a pretty good job there I know when I had mine, my average was around 36/37

The MPG is calculated, I never look at the computer. I have only done 13000 miles as well so engine should loosen up and return better mileage in the future.

I used to post up about fuel economy and people would just take the mick and tell me I was talking blow. So now I tune to pants off my car and take it along to RR days and Santa Pod which makes it impossible to deny my claims. My heavy foot and tuning sees me geeting much less economy now adays though, 43-45mpg is my usual average now I enjoy every drop though

My worst tank full was about 42 MPG which was due to a lot of town work and few higher speed runs on the motorway, not bad I suppose but anything under 47 MPG and I consider it a little on the low side.

I'm currently averaging nearly 47 mpg over 6k. That's with a mixture of driving styles - normally lead foot larry though

Nutron - I've never disbelieved what you claimed, but I honestly defy ANYONE to get more than 40ish mpg from mine. The best I@ve ever seen was 47 indicated so probably 44 or 45 on a 6 hour motorway run at 70mph.

I'd give my arm for over 40! My Siggy will absolutely, resolutely, defiantly refuse to crack 40 mpg, no matter how much I feather the throttle, cruise at stupidly low speeds.....

Mind you, a low boredom threshold doesn't help either....

When i had my first Vectra 1.9CDTi we went to Leeds/Harrogate/Sheffield etc from North Wales and it worked out at 57mpg (with CR1 box and calculated) As soon as i fitted front, rear and roof spoilers, 19's, etc it went down to average around 45-48 ish.

It's probably the 19's that's killing my economy.

That and the low boredom threshold....
