No expert but I would of thought anything you put on it to remove the tar will also remove the wax.

If you have tar on there you wont be getting the best from your wax. Just de tar, rinse, polish and wax each panel as you go. 10 mins tops.
cheers rushy. any recommendations on products for a beginner, ive been reading other posts on here and it seems to get very complicated sometimes, glazing, claying, stage 3, etc

The Tar remover in the Group buy is good stuff and very easy to use. A Glaze just fills tiny swirls in the paint and gives the paint a wet look. To understand that to get a good gloss is all in the prep. Wax is just a way of protecting the work the polish/ glaze does, wax does not give the shine, it just protects the shine. If your starting out, you cant go wrong with the megs stage 1,2,3 from halfords. Also buy the clay kit, trust me its worth it. There are far better waxes out there than the megs stage 3 but the 3 stages are a good way in understanding how to prep and protect your finish. HTH
thats spot on lads. just what i was after. thanks for your time.
