    Vehicle : Vectra

    Trim : Design

    Engine : CDTi 150

    Year : 55

    Default Extended Warranty

I was considering extending the Warranty on my Car for a further 12 months after the manufacturers expires in December @ £425.00 per year, this includes Assistance and MOT Warranty.

Would are peoples opinions on extending the warranty?

The extended warranty was very expensive in my opinion, £425 for 1 year / 20K miles
That would have taken my car from June 2007 to about next month

For the same money I looked at the Complete Motoring Plan
It offers the same level of cover AND includes servicing, all serviceable items including brake pads and discs
I took mine out for 40K miles a year, 3 year contract
Payments can be made at time of purchase or monthly (interest free)

I have always bought the Sureguard for years 2, 3 and 4 for my cars and found them to be well worthwhile for the peace of mind they have provided. Then when VX extended their warranttee to 3 years but DID NOT include the recovery (Assistance) within it the Sureguard went up in price a lot and now I note they have left the price as is and provide only cover for year 4 and created a new Assistance grade to cover just recovery for years 2 & 3 at a price much more than I can get the same from my insurance as an add on.
Raised this with Sureguard and they have simply issued me with Assistance Contract at no cost as I have the 4th year in place. Result.

Assistance does cover only the vehicle named on the policy but also includes recovery for all passengers - it is a fairly normal AA policy. To quote the benefits:
"Full rescue service including roadside assistance.
Recovery....the driver, vehicle and all passengers will be recovered to the nearest Vauxhall Retailer or to any single UK destination."
Once at a VX retailer you are then entitled to a loan car while yours is fixed. It also includes At Home, Accident, Theft etc plus travel costs, messaging service etc. all the things you would expect from a good rescue and recovery policy.

IMO, warranties are not worth it. If you work the statistics out, you are paying more than the average repair bill for your type of car. That's how it works.

I suppose it gives some peace of mind though.

I spoke to Assistance yesterday and they informed me that they would take the car 10 miles, basically Peoples in car you had to find their own way home.
