Driving along at any speed and i've noticed a sort of droning/whining noise from the back end of my 54 plate sri.
I've only had the car about a month so would like to get it sorted whilst still under warranty

Does it get any louder / quieter when going around bends?

Sign of a wheel bearing failure if so.

Also, what tyres you got fitted? Certain makes can be noiser than others.

feel the inner edges of the rear tyres.. if they are slightly 'stepped' they will whine like a bearing... the bearings make a similar noise but you can check them if you take the disc off and feel the smoothness of rotation by hand..

    Default Check Out

My entries on the site as I have also had a whine / drone from the car - seemed to be the rear
Have played around with the tyes
    Checked the body work
    Checked under the car
Have now had new rear discs under network q
But still this odd sound that starts at 60 mph
    Still no idea
My car is a new shape design 120 cdti 5 door
My other car a new shape elite 150 5 door does not have the problem

Vauxhall Dealer wanted to charge an hours labour to localise it even though the mechanic had heard it on its recent full service test drive

I had exactly the same problem, the noise is coming from the tyres as mentioned by "GSi3.2". The problem was diagnosed as being the rear camber which needs to be adjusted by some where local to you who can do "computerised 4 wheel geometry". NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH A QUICK CHEAP TRACKING ADJUSTMENT THAT THE CHEAP TYRE PLACE AT THE END OF YOUR STREET CAN DO. You need to look for something similar to ProTyre near you www.protyre.co.uk.

You also need to be very carefull with your tyre pressures if you using wide wheels. Running them too hard with also cause the tyres to step on the rear. I'm running 19" alloys using 235/35/19 tyres and I have to run them at 33psi to avoid wearing the middle treads to quickly on the front and to avoid stepping on the rear.

If you search for my threads you'll see one regarding this with photo's etc.

Please be aware - your rear tracking may be out if your rear strut's or springs are worn out also. Depending on mileage or if you spend most of your time off road...:-)

    Default Tracking Checked

    Hi Marchdale

    Thanks for the info
I will get the car checked
But interestingly the car has had its 4 wheel geo checked twice now once by a local specialist I use for tyres ( they do all the tyres for the local dealers eg Audi, Saab, Lexus etc in Cardiff ) and also by the Vaux Dealer who also has the kit as a body shop crash centre
But still the drone is there but I'll mention it to them and see what they say
    Any other tips much appreciated

Daft question but would they not have picked up the wear on the struts and springs on the service?

No off roading for me, but even the on roading these days with the state of the roads looks like a rally stage

The cars done 33k on a Nov 55 plate and its mainly done on dual carrageways

Pressure are stated as 33psi for the car and are checked regular

Will check with tyre centre / dealer on getting the camber checked again

As Ever its all time off the road , why they dont train staff up or take a bit more time on checking a car during a full service I dont know, it would cost more but I'd be happy as it would mean less time drinking rubbish coffee at gargae

    Default No Joy

I have now had the cars suspension and 4 wheel geo tracking Checked and nothing was found
I must say I do like Vekies as well I have 2
    BUT

Is it just the fact that

    1. Garages ( not just dealers ) cant be bothered to actually offer a real service now
    2. Car to complicated
    3. Technician Training needs looking at

Or are Vekies just not thought through as a design at the start of their life
as they are nice cars but I have found ( now with 2 - this makes 3 in the last 5 years ) they suffer with not minor problems that quickly become big £ ones
Thankfully the other Vekies Turbo was replaced under warranty but the delear did not give me confidence in the car as they have no idea why it failed as the Computer ( well did not say no as such ) did not offer them an answer

Looking around now at other brands
