    Default Oil consumption

Need some help here guys. My 2.2 Direct Petrol engine has up to very recently, never drunk any [measurable] oil in between services. The other day the Oil can light showed for a few moments only and I thought that if it comes on again and or stays on, will check the oil. Well to be honest I forgot all about checking the oil as the light never came back on again. But when I checked it today it was at the bottom of the dip stick. I will need to get some 5-30 Full synthetic tomorrow.

As the stealers are shut is there other makes I can use with out screwing up the car/warranty etc. I was thinking of some where like A1 AUTOPARTS or Halfrauds? Any advise would be appreciated guys

On a sunday, you'll be fine to top it up with ANY brand of 5W30 oil..

how long has it been since it was serviced or it's level checked last?..i.e. whats the consumption rate of the oil in miles?

Don't forget to check the oil pressure switch/sensor too. They do tend to start leaking over time.

Take off the hose feeding the air inlet manifold and see if there is alot of oil inside the pipe.

2.2 petrol Karl, so no turbo to dump oil into the inlet matey.... so there is no way for oil to enter the cylinders apart from valve stems or piston rings.. either of which would produce obvious oil smoke..apart from that it'll have to be leaking it out somewhere which is what KC will have to look for..

Thanks for the replies guys. The car is only 2 1/2 years old and was serviced (as always) at a Vauxhall dealers last November. Since then I have done about 8k miles so nothing too excessive. I don't notice any oil leaks or smoke when I put the foot down. Seems to idle /run ok. Total milegae to date is 36k so souldn't be thinking that the oil rings are away yet - I hope.

I managed to get some full synthetic today at the local Auto parts 5-30 Magnatec ............£11 for one Litre ****** dear stuff.

But when I checked the oil when the car was sitting level on the drive it showed more than earlier, so it was'nt as bad as first thought only took about 1/2 litre to get it back up to max.

Any thing else I should watch before the warranty expires at end November?

    Thanks again guys.
    Kenny

not really, but you'd be well advised to log the fault with VX by getting them to look at the car this coming week.. then if it fails out of warranty with the same issue VX are normally more understanding
