    Question 2.8T - which engine?

    Z28NET...Z28NEL...Z28LET?

Right. Which of these engines corresponds to...

    230PS / 250PS / VXR 280PS?

The reason I'm asking - the dealer I'm buying mine from says the engine in mine is the NET and therefore the 250PS version, and that the LET is the lower 230PS version. Is that right? And apart from checking the VIN, is there any easy way of telling them apart visually?

    Ta

Both engines are effectively the same lump which I read was originally developed by Holden in Australia. The 'N' in 'Z28NET' and 'Z28NEL' refers to the compression ratio which is higher than the those that end in 'LET/LER/LEH'. The 'L' in 'Z28NEL' means it a lower-power version of the 'Z28NET'.

If Craig has a 230PS version, then I would imagine it could be re-programmed to a 250PS version. VX would charge the earth to do it, I shouldn't wonder.

Looks like the VXR is a 'tweaked' Z28NET then.
