Red face Vectra V6 diesel switchable 4 cylinder: EXISTS ?

Hi All - I've been told that there is a Vectra 2.2 DTi Elite, originally destined for the American market, of which some 750 models were availed to the UK, which boasts a V6 - 2.2 engine which is switchable to V4 mode for higher economy.

I've searched UK Autotrader site and cannot find such a model. Was reccomended to your Forum - I know you'll know the answer. To me, a 2.2L doesn't stack up to a 6 cylinder model !!! This a serious enquiry from a non-technical forumite so please be gentle . . . . but honest !

Please confirm . . . looking forwrd to your replies !

never ever heard of that one at all...the US equivilant model is the Saturn Aura and that doesn't come with a diesel engine...

As all US spec cars are LHD that should be a bit of a giveaway.. Also, the EU market V6 CDti's are made by isuzu and this branding can be clearly seen on the ECU on the top of the airbox.

I would be very suspicious of the above vehicle that you describe.. even if it DOES exist ( which i strongly doubt) parts and service items would be very hard to obtain.

if the seller has any underbonnet photo's i'd be 'very' interested....

    Not heard of it.

if there was a switchable V6 2.2l, that would make it about a 1.5l when in V4 mode

The only thing I have seen like that was a V16 cadillac, it would shut down to a V4 but it was only a prototype. I believe the DTi's were a Merc design but were thought to be to rough for the mark hence GM took it on.

Just spent a couple of minutes googling around the US sites... the Saturn Aura has never ever been fitted with a diesel engine, instead they prefer petrol/biofuel hybrids.. so if none was ever fitted to a US vectra equivilant i can't beleive in this mythical V6/4cylinder switchable diesel..

Yeap US and Mexico are petrol countries and is very rare to see a disel cars arround. Most trucks use disel but not cars.
Here in Mexico slowly...very slowly they are trying to "introduce" diesel cars...I`ve seen some Mercs and VW`s...but very rare.
