    Default Help me choose shocks

Today i took my 2003 vectra 3.2 elite in to get the dreaded MOT. She went through, but it looks like the offside rear shock is drenched in fluid, indicating a blown shock or at least a nasty leak (i cant believe it, the things only 5 years old with 50,000 on it, my nissan shocks lasted 85,000 before they even needed looking at). Thing is, maybe its time to upgrade the shocks for something a little bit nicer (and hopefully more reliable) than the standard vauxhall fare. If anyone can make suggestions on new shocks that are suitable for the 3.2 but are reasonably priced, or maybe the same price as the vauxhall shocks but better quality, please post a suggestion and also if anyone has a link of where to buy them.According to the MOT station, they need doing pretty quickly cos the leak is not a small one. So hit me with a suggestion of whats a good replacement.

    Hi Crucial

I think if you trawl the threads you'll find that 50,000 miles is above average for the lifespan of the standard fit shocks. I've just replaced my rear shocks with Bilstein B4's obtained from Eurocarparts for 25Quid each plus VAT. Very big difference over the standard VX offerings.

    Regards

    Nidge.

Nidge is right, 5 years and 50k is not bad going for the VX shocks. Mine lasted for 47k, now up to 22K (69k total) with replacement VX ones which are lasting ok for now. If these go it will B4's for me, no question

i went to the LMF site and found the rear shocks, Bilstein B4 Rear Shock Absorbers - Vectra C and Signum , do these rear shocks work the same for the 3.2 as the other engine sizes, or is there a heavier duty version for the 3.2? Sorry if this sounds silly but hopefully you'll get what i mean (i.e. are all engine sizes using the same bilstein B4 rear shocks?).

I looked for the shocks on eurocarparts but they dont seem to list parts for the vauxhalls on there.Shame , £25 sounds like a nice deal.

They don't list them on the site for some reason, try phoning them up. A couple of members have got them from ECP that way
