    Gotta be gas.

You can't beat the authentic charcoal taste but for convenience and being able to get those snags onto the heat toute suite, gas is the way forward

I used to always have charcoal ones for that reason i.e. the smoked BBQ 'flavour' Needed a new one last year and got a gas one with the lava rock stuff. TBH I can't say I've noticed any real lack of taste as you still get the BBQ effect as the meat cooks. What is soooo much quicker is starting it off and getting it to cooking temp - something that took a while on the charcoal one, even with one of those chimney lighter things. It's great if you're only doing a few things as you don't need to spend all the time lighting/preparing the charcoal - just turn it on and in five minutes off you go.

If you really, really want the smoked flavour effect, you can buy these smoked wood chips that you sprinkle onto the lava rock that then burn and give off a smoked smoke.

I doubt if I'd go back to a charcoal one, and that's from somebody that resisted from changing to a gas one for the reasons you said.

Mines gas and it is quicker than a charcoal one. True you don't get the same 'smokey' taste but there's more pros than cons IMO. Btw, Mark burns a mean chicken drumstick

I was walking round Costco the other day and they've got some beauties in there. I was admiring one for about £850. It came with a sink too!

I would have to go for gas, much more 'user friendly'
