    Default My long term rental

My new Mazda 6 was due to arrive at the beginning of March and at the end of the month I started to chase the company and it turned out that they had 'lost it' and had to order a new one from the factory. Sick of piling on the miles for the Vectra, the company offered me a long term rental until the middle of July and last week this turned up.

Its a nice looking car and has the same 150BHP CDTI engine as the Vectra and this facelift model has the same door handles as the Vectra although I think if I bought one having owned a Vectra, I think I would be a bit miffed as there is no difference in build quality (if not worse - the seats squeak) and there is less kit than in my Vectra Elite (and it cost about the same -£24K) - no auto lights, no auto wipers, no heated seats and no sat nav.

I cleaned it last night using Dodo Juice Shampoo, clayed it, pre-cleaned the paint with Dodo Juice Lime Prime and waxed with Dodo Juice Purple Haze - it was too dark to take pictures last night so I took these today at work so the car is a bit dusty and not as 'wet looking' as I would like.

    Ya forgot the tyre shine!

Nice looking car - interesting to hear your comments on it compared to the Vectra. Spec wise, if it's not asz good build quality and less well specced - what exactly is it that you're paying more for?!

I know, I know......I ran out of tyre shine and I am waiting for some CG tyre gel

You're paying for the badge, nothing more - Saab marketing play a lot on Saabs aviation heritage although the businesses have been seperate for years. People who I know who have seen the car treat it as if I had bought a premium brand car like a BMW/Audi etc but it does not feel that special - I like the front of the car with its eyebrow lights but like I say, its a lot of money for what you get and it feels no different to the Vectra to drive.

I think Tony (Caterman) had one and got rid of his for similar reasons.

I like it, it has more road presence that a Vectra has. When I had one on demo before Christmas I thought it was a little better than a Vectra, but not much. But the image is there with the saab.

Personally, I think if your going to have a Saab, get a powerful petrol version, as that what Saabs are all about.

I think I must be getting old as I'm kinda liking the look of Saabs these days (no offense to anyone but I always thought of Saabs as old mans cars).

As said above about quality, it is all about branding, the servicing is the same, more expensive than the Vectra but the same parts being used and same technicians doing the work.

Looks wise I dont like these at all but you have done a good job of cleaning it up, very nice. I would have expected better build quality, having driven a few Saabs though, I know that some of the interiors are not that great in terms of build and durability - same as the vectra really. The Mazda 6 is usually a well put together car.

What ? you did all that to a rental car ! It does look very nice but what's the point LOL you may as well save your cleaning products for when the Mazda turns up

Ah well - if I am testing products on a rental car ('cos I will be testing my G220 on it), it does not matter if I wreck the paint too much (although unlikely with a dual action polisher).

More importantly, I work on Army bases all the time and I think it important that when representing my company, the car should be clean and shiny and present a good image.
