    Default engine bay cover painting?

    hi,

im not a sprayer but im willing to give it a go. thinking of painting air box,top cover and battery/fuse box covers after seeing some been done on here.

how to clean them down and what primer to use?

not sure wot colour im thinking of doing them yet,

got these in mind, blue-red-or black sapphire same as the car.

    how 2?..

first off, clean off all silicone dressing traces with either thinners or brake cleaner... then using plastic primer put on about 3 thin coats to avoid runs..
then using the colour of your choice, put on about 3 light coats to cover the primer without runs, then add 3 coats of clear laquer..

if you want it smooth, you'll need a high build primer and some wet and dry paper to rub it smooth..

always best to paint the plastics off the car..much easier than masking..

If you choose a basic colour then the best paint i have found is from B&Q it's the aerosol tins of Plasticote vinyl paint comes in 400ml tins i find you dont need to prime the parts but as Mark said they must be completely grease/oil free and again as Mark said build up the coates in thin layers this paint is heat proof as well so no problems there also it does not need a laquer as it is an enamel/vinyl paint and has a great shine if you want to paint them car colour then it's just as Mark has said HTH
