Squeaky belt

Morning all, my car (2.0T SRi) has recently developed a squeaky belt on cold start up. Once up to operating temp after 10 mins it disappears. Is this something I should get checked/adjusted/greased ASAP or can it wait until my next service around March/April time?

The belt should be self adjusting. But do not put anything on it though.
Does the belt look worn, it might need replacing.

Seems to be a common prob on the 2.0T

Have a look at this thread - especially my post near the end about the modified pulley (and part numbers).

Thanks for the part nos - I've printed them off for reference in case my dealer is not familiar with this issue.

Do you reckon this is something I should get looked at ASAP or can it wait a month or so? Don't want a wrecked engine...

ASAP is always best with this sort of thing. It is very very possible that when it chucks the belt off it could break or friction burn through the timing belt casing and throw your timing belt off, then follows much wailing and gnashing of teeth as you fork out up to a grand in engine repair bills. Over the years as a mechanic I have seen this a lot, only just before christmas I had to strip, repair and rebuild a Peugeot Partner engine all because it threw off the auxillary belt and pulled the timing belt off. The guy was doing about 60mph down the A1 at the time.

As MV - get it looked at as soon as you can really. You probably could leave it a short while if you couldn't get into the dealer.

As you probably saw in that link I gave, I couldn't get into the dealer for a few weeks as I was away a lot, and it didn't cause any problems - but if you're able to get it on sooner, I'd also suggest you do.

I thought the SAAB 2.0T engine had a timing chain not belt. Can anyone confirm?

I'm going into the dealers tomorrow for some coolant so will discuss and book a slot. Incidentally is GM coolant concentrate or ready mixed. It's an orange/yellow colour in my car.

Went down to the dealers this AM, have got the car booked in for a week on Tuesday to get the squeaky belt changed at least (a common issue apparently).

Service man was not aware of replacement pulley part so I gave part no to him and he is going to check it out with Vauxhall Technical before my car goes in. You'd think when they type the part no into their system it would come up with a message saying something like "replacement for defective component on 2.0T" wouldn't you but it doesn't apparently.

I note there's been no recall as such so this must only affect some 2.0T cars

Indeed it does have a chain. Sorry for the very belated reply, but I've just referred this thread to somebody else and spotted that bit - so really for anyone else's benefit.
