    Default Another brake question!

Sorry to ask so many questions but...

The car ha been making a terrible rattling noise for the last week or so (worse now the hot weather's here and I've got the windows open!)

I've had the rear wheels off because thats where the noise seemed to be coming from, after looking round I think it may be the inside brake pad on each side appears to be lose, when I move it, it makes the same noise as when moving and when under braking the noise stops. The brake pads have a good amount left on them as do the disks.

Now I'm guessing this isn't normal, but is it common and is there something I can do to stop it?

    Thanks everyone!

    1) Remove pads the check that the caliper moves on the guide pins (this is to keep the caliper central to the disc) if not free them up and place a film of HMP grease on the pins. 2) Then before replacing the pads smear the BACKS of the pads (the metal backing) where they come into contact with the caliper body and piston and the top and bottom contact areas with "copper ease" . This operation (front and rear) I carry out every Spring as part of my ongoing maintenace sheduale.

your right J.K. it's not normal or common.. are the pads VX ones or aftermarket ones?..

as above, all you can do is strip and coppergrease the caliper assy as you rebuild it..

this is rectified by fitting new gen vxl rear pads as the new pads will have a wire attached which slots over the the inner piston on the caliper which stops the rattle when you get the pads you will see wot i mean
