Default My in car USB mod.

As everyone seems to be bodgifying their cars out of boredom, I though I'd have a go at a job I've been meanng to do for ages.

Basically I use loads of stuff on the move that constantly needs charging, like my mobile phone, portable sat nav, portable media player, ipod etc. But they all charge via USB, so I thought I'd fit one in my car as a charging socket rather than have a cigarette charger lead for each item that needs charging.

So what I did is buy an Ebay cigarette USB adaptor and cut a hole in the cup holder to poke the USB socket through. Then I simply glued the back of it in place which some pretty hefty glue to make sure it doesn't move.
All I have to do now is to solder some wires in place to power the USB charger

Not yet mate. I'm gonna leave it overnight to dry, refit the cup holder tomorrow and then wire it up when I get time next week as I'm working Sunday afternoon so won't have time to connect it up until next weekend.

Where can we pick up power for that that would remain on without the ignition being on? I would like to be able to have the lighter scket on without the ignition also.

The permanent live supply at the back of the stereo for it's memory should do, as long as it's not a canbus wire, otherwise it's gonna have to come from the battery.

Found time this morning to finish the job off.
As you can see, the new supply wires to the USB adaptor are now soldered in place and is connected directly to the underside of the cigarette lighter socket.
Now I can charge all my gadgets without filling my glovebox full of charger leads or making the inside of my car look like spaghetti junction
