    Default Locking wheel nut

Sorry if this is in the wrong place as its about my peugeot, Tried to get the wheels off yesterday to paint my calipers but when I came to get the locking wheel bolt off it looks like the previous owner had some how managed to round of the little notches where the pins on the wheel nut key would sit. I tried for about an hour yesterday to get the thing off. Tried to chissel it off but theres too much of a recess on the wheel. Tried hammering on an old socket but that didnt work.
Just wondering if you guys had any ideas before taking it to a garage to get it done. I used to have a thing called a gator grip but cant find it. Does anyone know of anywhere that sells them? I have'nt seen them in years.

    Cheers

What you need is a 'Ripper' style specialist removal socket.. Snap-on sell them either singly or as a set.. Sealey tools www.sealey.co.uk may well also sell them..they work by biting into the remains of the bolt.. the more pressure you apply, the harder they bite..

Someone in a garage helped me once. I had a Vectra SRI and managed to stuff up my lock nut kep and they were all stuck on the car. The garage (at the time was in Coventry), now closed down, welded a normal wheel bolt onto the end of the lockign bolt and then simply used his pressure gun to unclock them. Took them the best part of 5 mins per wheel, but it did the trick. only downsite was that it caused a very small amount of a burn mark to the puter rim of one of the wheel nut holes. Ask someone competent in a garage to try this, but the risk is yours.!

might be an idea to pop into you local dealer and ask for some advise... they may have a wheel nut removal tool to hand and they may have a try.. worth asking at least.

Although this thread is 2 years old, this is such a common problem. When I went to the dealers to get my lock bolt off, all they kept saying to me was to buy a new lock bolt, but that would make no use at all as by the time i was looking for alternative methods, the boltd were well and truly f0ck3d!
