You can make an initial report to a local station, but it will be forwarded on to the area where the crime took place.

simply, you can report anywhere, and the paperwork is forwarded to the local station. Its better to report an issue locally as this speeds up (if there is such a thing) any process to be completed. It depends on the offence and it location. there are some good website which offer advise on traffic related offences, not sure if you can state on this forum..??

Well, my number plates had been cloned so I was get parking tickets for Thames Valley. Reported to police and thought oh well, nothing will happen.

Imagine my suprise when yesterday a nice PC rang to ask me if I had my car (YES). They had found the clone in Thames Valley. Apparently they have towed it.

    What happens next???

    Jax,

I work for Thames Valley (Oxfordshire). If the police know it's a clone you shouldn't be liable for anything at all. I expect they will trace it's real identity and re-unite it with it's owner, if not it will be sold depending on value or crushed. I don't deal with this thing directly but that is the best advice I can give you.

It will be sent to the stolen vehicle examiners (stolen vehcile squad)... they will gather as much evidence from it as possible, if the lads cant trace the original owner, its scrapped. If there is stuff on it for FSI (SOCO) then they will use this as evidence to look to prosectue and ringer etc...

Also, been on the receiving end, worked in london for 2 weeks, someone clock my old car plate, month later is was receiving fines for congestion charge. reported to local station that been cloned, they wanted to see my car and picture of car which had been fined on the camera, I had a merc at the time (okey no swearing) the picture was of a e class i had a c class!.. got a crime number, rang the firm up, got the fines cleared, around 14!, when explained and a letter or two later.
Well worth reporting any clone as soon as you are aware.
