Unhappy This year couldn't get any worse (i bought stolen vectra....)

    Hello all,

You may remember me, i was the guy who paid 8k for the 07 astra that had the wrong engine in it (still in the process of geting/trying to get a refund).

Anyway i bought a 07 vectra for around 9k. Went to the guys home (went inside), checked all papaerwork and VIN numbers.

Found out when i tried taxing it a month later that it was a dodgy V5. Police have been up today. they found the real VIN under the new plate on the drivers footwell. They confirmed it was stolen.

Anyway the guys at my local DVLA seem to think that the insurance company will offer it me for an 'ok' price (below trade as it's recovered) as they will be happy to recoup some money on the loss.

I was wondering if anyone knows how i should play this, do i phone 'masterlease' (previous owner) ask who insures their cars then speak to the insurers directly or do i wait for the police to get bak to me?

Also what sort of price should i offer/accept, the police confirmed it's a 2007 car. It's a 150cdti (150) with 28k miles. I bought it thinking it was the design, but looking at it i know believe it to be the Elite model (no badges on her)?

I also phoned GM and they said it being stolen 'shouldn't' affect the warrenty. They can't tell me for sure until i have real reg.

    Anyway, many thanks. Lew.

I remember your post from before, the car with the wrong engine fitted. Jesus, that's a bad run of luck.
Reminds all of us the importance of HPI/AA checks on used cars in this day and age.

    hi,

i did a hpi on both cars lol. The engine change wasn't recorded in the astra and the vectra just showed up fine cos of the fake plates....

Anwyay, i though it couldn't get worse but........

the police have just been back, had to recovery the vehicle as it was involved in a burglary as well !!!!

It had full leather, cd 70 nav, was a nice car, just sadly not mine. Worst thing is my gran lent me the money, she's telling me to write it off but i can't; they never earned much there whole lives so makes it all the worse...

Surely if you put in the reg and the Vin then it would have shown up as a mismatch?
If not then they guarantee te car wil be ok - if not then they will pay out....
    Maybe look into that....

Really sorry to hear the bad luck you are having m8. You seem to have done all the right things too, HPI etc.
Let's hope you get a refund on the Astra (TS should sort that one out) and the insurance offer something decent to repay your poor Gran

    Keep us informed.

Jeez that's terrible. Sorry to hear about that.

edit. Just checked the terms and conditions for a HPI check for future reference.

12.6 The HPI Guarantee will not cover you for "cloned" vehicles (a "cloned" vehicle being a vehicle that has been stolen and given a false identity, normally that of an identical vehicle), where the purchase price of the vehicle was greater than £3000 and the purchase of the vehicle was made with cash. (The other terms of your guarantee are not effected.) We recommend that all vehicles are paid for via the banking system, such as, cheque or Bankers draft.

Must admit didn't know about the 3K limit.
