To quote from the Vosa site:-

"Vauxhall engineers in conjunction with consultants and other bodies, have conducted rigorous testing and found that provided the handbrake is applied correctly without depressing the release button, the handbrake is perfectly safe."

Sounds to me that a lot of these runaway Vectras/Signums is down to the owners not operating the handbrake properly.

That and not leaving the car in gear once they've parked up. I've never understood why some people rely solely on a bowden cable and a rachet mechanism to stop their 1½ tonnes of metal from rolling away.

Huh? It's Vx that have initiated the recall - it always is the manufacturer who initiates a recall. VOSA merely catalogue them all in one place so that people can find them easily.

Vx, as we know, have already been sending out recall letters to owners for people to go to a dealer for the recall work - so somewhat confused by the bit about repair bills being forwarded by VOSA to Vx! Vx stump it up directly as it's all done through the dealer network - owner goes to a dealer to get the work done, dealer gets reimbursed by Vx - VOSA has nothing to do with the repairs.

    ^^^ as D says.

I too was surprised to read the first post.

I am also surprised by the number of people who rely solely on the handbrake to keep their expensive car in the same place, I ALWAYS engage 1st gear too. To me it was clear from the beginning of this whole saga that the method of applying the handbrake was the determining factor for the failure.

i had mine done while it was in for a service yesturday.
I also had a loud crack/snappin noise when applyin the handbrake, the mod they did for the recall has solved this problem aswell.
