V & W are the speed rating so I guess so as long as the load rating is correct. V is 150mph i think, W is 168 mph????
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

Tyres are 215/50/17 91V for any ones info. The reason for the check is the local tyre place can not get W rated and can only supply V rated. They are cheaper by £10 and I need three.

If you're going to change speed rating change all 4 tyres as it would fail a MOT with different speed rating on same axle, ie V on N/S and W on O/S.
Apart from this there should be no problem going from one to another.

100% mot failure is this true, it will help the choice if four required.

The garage did not not seem to have a problem with the mix of ratings as I did ask for three at the time.

    Thanks for replies so far.

Change the size for 225/45/17's. Do a forum search. They'll be cheaper as there is more choice as it's a more common size tyre. Also as yours is a diesel, due to the extra weight you *might* well require W rated and not V rated. Due to the slightly smaller diameter of the tyre the speedo will overread by approx 3 mph. ie, at a speedo indicated 70mph, you'll be doing something like 67mph.

Lastly, don't bother buying tyres from a garage. Get them from one of the many online suppliers and you'll save yourself even more money.
