I tow with a 2.2 sri petrol, my caravan is avondale dart 515/5 which is 21 foot long, it pull all right returning about 25 mpg the only problem is my drive slopes down and the pavement slopes up so when i pull off the drive i have to take the jockey wheel off because in rubs on the pavement, i think you will be on limit with your outfit.

Just to add to my previous post....

Been on the Caravan Club website and they say...
"Q - What does The Club recommend as a safe outfit weight ratio for towing a caravan?"
"A - The principle must be to have the heaviest possible towcar for a given caravan, otherwise the chances of a swaying trailer becoming uncontrollable and snaking are very real. Aim for a towed load 85% of the car’s kerb weight (KW), or the vehicle manufacturer’s towing limit, if lower. The nearer the caravan laden weight approaches the one-to-one ratio, the more careful the driver must be. Remember that the towed weight is the actual laden weight (ALW) that the car is asked to pull (empty weight of caravan plus what you add), not the theoretical Maximum Authorised Weight (MAW) or (from 1999 production models) Maximum Technically Permissible Laden Mass (MTPLM)."

I used to tow my 515/4 with a vec b 2.2 but could only get around 20mpg and that was driving it as smooth as silk!!

Anything else I can consult with the Caravan Club let me know as I am a member and get access to technical queries.

I've got one for ya Steve.... My 2003 Avondale Dart has the spare wheel housed internally accessed via a hatch in the floor. Problem is the laminated layers of the hatch floor panel are coming apart especially at one edge and the complete panel is starting to bend a bit when standing on it. Can I get a new floor section to replace it?
