    Default Greedy car 120 TDci

I've got an 04 Vectra which has just been serviced recently, however I'm only getting roughly 30mpg. One minute the needle is high then after a restart of the car it just drops suddenly and I'm like WTF? At the moment it's pure city driving with lots of short trips. Is this normal?

120 cdti should do a bit better than that around town, our's is averaging about 39 - 45 depending on driving style (or who is driving) and as for the needle being out, might be a loose / rusty sender terminal

Any ideas what could be causing such bad fuel consumption? I'd like to know , before I lose patience and sell it.

Around town I get about 34-37mpg. I though that was bad, but then considered the cost of Diesel. Paid £1.21 a litre today! Crazy. I regularly use some stuff called STP Injector Cleaner, and TBH, it does seem to work and I have noticed that the MPG does seem to go up a little. BUT appreantly, when yu put some of this stuff in, you need to give it a motorway blast just to get the treatment into the system and shot through. Hope this helps.

If the car only does short journeys it wouldn't really warm up - I would give it a good run/thrashing and then see what hapopens before worrying too much about the fuel consumption.

Thats true too, the shop told me about that stuff, apparently its meant to be sh*t hot, but the price somewhat scared me so I thoguht ****** that. There is also something called a fuel line cleaner, that was about £8-£10 a tin, but I regularly use the STP Injector Diesel Cleaner (its a blue bottle), seems to work!

no what you mean...!!! HAD TO GIVE IT A TRY.. to admit, i worked in a garage for a bit, they used this stuff all the time, its very good but very expensive for it too when you have others on the market for alot less. STP, Car Plan, to name a few. But all ill say if you wan the best, i found placing it in an empty fuel filter, run the engine... done, same for the rest is the stuff really... use it as neat as poss.
