air con

the car is 2 years 4 months old and 19000 miles tried the air con today and nothing the light on the switch comes on but thats all is this done under warrenty

I had a similar problem with mine at around that age. I didn't use it at all through the winter (apparently you should use it at least once a week to stop the seals drying out and then leaking). Having discovered this I got a man in a van to come round. Fortunately for me the system had sprung a leak and couldn't hold a pressure.

Still under warranty Vx replaced the leaky part and recharged the coolant so no charge.

If it holds pressure and is down to leaky seals through non use they will charge you for a top up of coolant.

been to see the dealers they're going to look at it and said if its a leak then its coverd under warrenty but if its just a re-gas then its £90 the thing is would it be common for just a re-gas at this age/mileage

yep, it would be common if you haven't used the AC much... i'd push them to recharge it FOC..

They are only stalling and trying to charge you for it, as if they can't find a faulty part to claim against VX for it then they have to fund the recharge themselves.. they're just trying to make sure they don't end up having to pay for it..

On all the cars I have ever had re gassed I have also had them put a die in, then if there is a leak or a leak in the future it is easy to know where it came from.

but as they've told me its 90 quid is my best option to let them check the system and then re-gas elsewhere with someone cheaper as im guessing even if there is a leak they're going to deny it and still do me for 90 quid

the average cost isn't that far off the VX charge.. and TBH, if you try to get it gassed elsewhere they are legally oblidged to check the system again.. even if you know the diagnosis..so it'll be more than just a puff of gas.
