confused Fitted a deCAT pipe, lost power and running hot!

I had a deCAT pipe fitted yesterday and as has happened when I have removed the whole exhaust, I lost power I thought a proper pipe with a full exhaust, might give a different result to just removing the exhaust but it didn't. The torque is down, the power is down, the pick up at low revs is lame but it does make more noise.... Not sure if I'm keen on the last one either

What came as a complete surprise is that the engine is now running much hotter, around 90 deg all the time. I know it is warm outside at the moment but even with the blowers on max hot, I can't get the temp down to 85 deg when stationary!!!! I can't think of any good reason for it running so hot with the CAT out

Fortunately it is a work in progress as I want to put a dual branch at the back and fit two sports CATs. Hopefully that should give me back the performance and reduce then noise a bit more again.

hmmm intresting issue. ive deCATed all the cars ive had. most were petrol mind you. the noise is normaly more raspy on petrol engines but if its a diesel engine then i cant imagine what the problem is. Id be assuming the its the same diametre as the rest of the exhaust and not to narrow.

Same width and I can't imagine it would flow less than a CAT.

    Nutron.
I think the Temp is purely a coincidence, I have not dectaed & my Cdti 150 is now running at 90. As you say a free flowing exhaust will actually lower Egt's Etc..

perhaps a map tweak is required to compensate as it may be running much leaner now & requires a bit more fuel

    Ha Ha Ha Ha!!!

Did you hear that, someone thinks my car needs more fuel!!! Ha Ha Ha Ha!!!

No but really, Ha Ha Ha Ha!!!

That's got to be the last thing I ever thought I would hear someone say to me Not being rude honest it's just not the sort of thing someone would say if they had seen my car on the Autobahns. I'm sure some of the wacky racers from Irmscher will confirm that I don't need more fuel

The reason I am concerned is that the temps over in Germany during the show were at least what they are here now and I wasn't having said trouble. I do pay a lot of attention to my engine temps because of the level of tuning I've applied to it. Even on the same day before the deCAT I didn't notice such high temps.

The problem IS actually fuel related. The exhaust system with a CAT fitted has a certain "resistance" and therefore the fuel and airflow are regulated by the ECU in conjunction with the airflow meter and certain other sensors.

The problem is you are now running lean, causing your high temperature.

A visit to your dealer to change your ECU settings to compensate, will solve your problem.

edit: If you continue to tun like you are now, you will burn out your injector tips!!

I'm not running lean, I assure you. When you run lean you don't have large clouds of black behind you. I did think perhaps the ECU was trying to regenerate the CAT continuously but I wasn't sure if a CAT actually has a regeneration cycle like a DPF?

Whatever the case, you need to get it on the puter to see where the issue is mate.

    Okay, Glad i amused you.

But you have reached the limit of something !! Perhaps now your Mass Airflow is maxed out as the car can now evacuate the gases so quickly & freely, Thus screwing up your Mixtures..

On my highly tuned cars of the past, I kept a close eye on things, You have too, But like you say, if you are certain it did not run that hot before !! then something has changed..

Oh, The Cat has no regeneration cycle
