Default Low miles per gallon anyone?

First got my Veccy and was getting 450-500 miles to a full tank.....now im lucky if i get 300 to a full tank!! Today i put £50 in, have done 35 miles and its gone from full to the red in between 3/4 and full. If i carry on like that ill only be getting 60-70 miles to quarter of a tank!!

Could this be related to the caterman box ive got on or the fact that ive done 20,000 miles and havent had it serviced....could a service really impact the fuel consumption so much??? And with the cost of fuelincreasing so much these days its getting beyond a joke.....im putting £120+ in a month!

Hmmm, doubt missing the sevice would have such a big impact, more likely the box. I put redex in on my last fill up and have suffered just as bad, be lucky to get 300 miles out of the tank. The car is as mad as a box of frogs though, must be the redex.

had the box off a while now and think the mpg around town is a little better, althought with the box on there is alway's the urge to plant my right foot down a little harder so deffo less mpg to be had...........

saying that we averaged around the same mpg on a good spirited run down the autobahn's last week without the box as with it on (avv 50mpg)

still getting around 550 - 600 per tank only the fill up has gone up big time money wise due to the robin barsteward goverment

If you have no reason to do so, never fill your tank up to the brim as the extra weight you are carrying in fuel adds to excessive fuel consumption, not a lot but it does add up over a period, check your tyre pressures this has the same effect, get the car serviced then you can cross that one off your list.

Interesting one - just googled the weight of petrol and 1 litre = 0.75kg. So a full tank (60 litres) weighs in at a staggering 45kg (99lb or 7 stone)

That's a lot of spare weight to carry round - I know it decreases as you burn the fuel but it's like carrying a child around all the time and I'm as guilty as most for running with a full tank.

    Check the air filter

And I'd say you are spot on with the tuning box, get it off asap.

there is an oil for the diesels which last for 18,000 miles so no need for a every 6.000 miles

as it has been mentioned a good service and adjust the tyre pressures will help so go to your local motor factors and get oil, oil filter pollen filter air filter (unless you have a k&n fited) diesel filter and treatment (put into new filter as it cleans the injectors better should cost around £60

Na, I mean replace the dirty element, if you have done the mod wrong and too much air is getting in then I suppose it could make the engine run weak which does increase fuel consumption.
