Thumbs up Sport Button - Auto CDTI - Did you know!!!?

Since I got the siggy over 12 months ago I was always under the impression that the sports switch under the accelerator is their should you be in low revs and want to get moving quicker you depress the accelerator then push again and the switch drops a gear.

Anyway I was going through some keen driving in Wales the other day and put my foot down to accelerate and as usual the car changed gear @ 4000rpm, as I am going along a tractor pulled out and I coasted up to it then used the sports switch to keenly wizz past.

But this time i left my foot down even on the switch and the car rev'd to about 4700rpm and was going like a bat out of hell!

So i tried it again joining the motorway later on, drove with my foot down without the switch and it didnt go past 4000rpm but when the switch is down it will go to about 4700rpm which with the BSR you get some rate of nots going.

You all may know this but I thought i would mention it as in the 12 months or so i've had it i didnt know!!! ha ha

Yes but it isnt just dropping a gear; the car with the button depressed will rev higher than normal!

Yeah, but when you say "button" are you just referring to pushing the accelerator beyond the resistance, giving it step down. It's great that it does allow some over revving. Wonder if it gives a little overboost too.

Used to be called a 'kickdown' switch,on older auto's used to just drop a gear but on a modern can-bus car it could do alsorts!.

The 'kick down' will also hold that gear for longer, ie higher RPM before changing up.

This is not new, just about every auto has this feature, just maybe not electronically.

So is there actually a sports switch or is it just the kickdown your referring to when it's holding the revs for longer?
