    Default 2.6 Vec B

    Hi everyone,

I put this on General as it doesn't concern a vec c.

Does anyone know roughly what mpg a 2.6 sri Vec b should average?

My mate has an ex police one & cannot better 22mpg even on a run which is way too thirsty IMO & we both think there's a fault.

I know alot of us used to have b's so any advice is appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Ian

Hi would think there is something wrong with it, i can get more than that from my 3.2.
I wonder if the lambda sensor is faulty or some other sensor that is telling the ECU that it is running weak, so it now puts in too much fuel??

My last car was a 2.6 omega.

Heavier car and an auto but still averaged around 25mpg

Yea, I had one and around the doors (as we say up here) I would get (depending on weight of right foot LOL) anywhere between 22 and 27mpg. On a long run the best I ever had was about 36mpg IIRC correctly. I would say that there is a definate fault there. Lambda sensor is a distinct possibility but there could be other factors. The only real answer is to get it checked out at the dealer.

Hmmm, we had a 2.6 before we had the Vectaru - averaged about 20-ish but got it down to about 10 when on a mission (it was kicking out about 240 bhp though, so possibly not the best to judge!!!!)

    I had a 2.6 GSi before my 3.2.

Around town it gave anywhere between 22 and 25mpg and on a long run to Ireland I got 36mpg with 3 adults, and my 4 month old daughter with all the luggage! - I was well chuffed with that!

Thanks for that people, I reckon he deffo has a problem.

He can never get better than about 22mpg whether round town, on a "casual" run or hammering at >100.

He gets around 270 miles to a tank with a fair bit of mway driving which I think is awful, my 330 beemer was far more economical & was alot heavier too.

Can be one of two things mate:

    MAF (Mass air flow sensor)
    Lambda Sensor

Does sound too greedy. Ex-police so a few miles .
