Default Torx size for brake caliper

Hi all, I went to change my pads (front and rear) tonight but noticed I needed a Torx bit. I have a set but it only goes up to T50 and sods law the caliper needs a larger size. Does anyone know what size is needed, I'm guessing T55 or T60. Also do the caliper pistons push back in or are they screwed (clockwise or anti-clockwise). My Vectra is an 05 1.8

    Many thanks

Its a 7mm hex/allen drive mate. Screwed in on the rears, pushed in on the fronts.

That's the caliper carrier bolts you are trying to take off. You don't touch them at all to change pads, as Rushy says, it's the 7mm allen head slider bolts you take out. PLEEEASE be careful

EDIT: Just seen you location, do you want me to do them for you. I'm a fitter for Northumberland County Council

yep, to echo gary..Undo those torx bolts and it's a scrap caliper....the two 7mm bolts are under the plastic covers on the calipers..just undo those..

if you don't feel 100% confident, let gary have a look..

Thanks guys, I'm glad I asked before going ahead. I've changed pads on my old Primera and my lads Hyundais and Fords but never came across a setup like this.

After looking at the images in the How2 I'm not 100% sure mine looked like these, I'll have another look tomorrow night (footy tonight ) and post some images if I'm still unsure.

Thanks for the offer Gary, I'm about 8 miles north of Alnwick, whats your hourly rates lol - I have a son with an Astra that may need a timing belt kit changing pretty soon

    Cheers all

The pics are of a GSi set up but yours are the same just smaller. The bolts as mark said are under little plastic caps, they stick out about 1cm and have a little dust cap on the end that you can remove with your finger nail, dead easy to do yourself mate, the hardest thing is getting the nasty little spring clips off and seated again. Again though mate if your not confidant in your work take Gary up on his offer, after all thats what were here for mate, to help where we can.

Finally got time to change the brakes all round over the bank holiday, I didn't have a replacement wear indicator so removed it totally (will get one next week) does the dash wear indicator need to be reset by Vx as it's still illuminated on the dash.

Thanks for all the help guys

As soon as a new Wear Indicator is fitted the light will go off automatically, because its off altogether it thinks its in a 'pad worn' state.

It looks like it's somehow become detached from the outer section that has the teeth on it that needs sorting ASAP before the belt slips off !!

Hi guys thanks for the quick reply. when you say may be detached do you mean the gold pulley (top right of picture marks '2'), from what I remember it looked like it was all one piece and supposed to look like that - I could be wrong though lol
