Digital Cameras...

Duncan will hopefully have some good advice for me on this one....

I currently use a Toshiba PDR-2300 digital camera but its very basic and very slow so I was wondering what anyone thought of or had tried/owns a Fuji FinePix S5500.

Don't get me wrong i'm no David Bailey but I would like my pics to look good... usually I only take pics of my little girl but the Toshiba shutter is really slow and I usually miss all the best smiles

so I was looking for something that would respond a little quicker??

I use a Minolta Dimage 7hi, can take up to 7 frames a second and has video clip functions too. I find it works superbly for Motorsport photography, and is brilliant as an every day camera.

I've just updated to a Canon S70, and so far I'm very pleased.
Good price from 7dayshop, too!

It's difficult for me to recommend a specific digital camera. There are just soooo many around, and it all depends what your priority is - quality, size of camera etc. etc.

Have a look here for a review of the S5500 - but also have a good look around the site at the cameras that it is compared to. It's a very, very good site - independent, comprehensive technical tests and explaining pros and cons of each camera.

I had a look at the Canon range, in particular the Powershot G6... looked good

Does anybody know if places like Jessops do trade-in's??

My camera is goosed. Its a olympus mju 300, a decent point and shoot camera. has li-ion battery etc etc so its suits us.
Problem is the sliding door has bust and no longer switches the camera on/off. The repair shop have been waiting 3 months for parts from olypmus and its still not here.
Thinking of just getting a new camera and selling the Mju 300 on ebay.

The G6 is certainly a decent camera in that price range/style.

If you mean against older digital cameras, I'd say highly unlikely as they are out of date so quickly. If they did, I'd think it would only be with the high-end digital SLR's that they would even consider, like the EOS 1D/1Ds etc.

If you meant against film cameras, then once again only against certain premium models - there are just too many second hand film cameras around for them to want any more.

But no harm in asking them.

If you do consider buying from Jessops (which is no bad thing - I've bought stuff there!!!) get a selection of prices off the web. They will price match (in store) to a fairly large number of web sites. The one that I know they won't for definite is pixmania as it's not a UK based company.

If you get down to a shortlist and want any more opinions, let me know.

ive got a fuji finepix s7000 which is spot on, its a digital slr the only problem as with all the fuji digital cameras is they are useless indoors at night to see as the viewfinder is electronic but otherwise it is a good camera - 12 million pixels

why not save money and instead of buying a new camera, kidnapp Duncan and force him to take pictures for you, under the threat that you'll remove his cubby holes and fill his fridge with girly alcoholic milkshakes.
