Mine's a petrol jobbie, but it takes longer than any car I've previously owner to reach normal operating temperature. At least five miles.

Mine is also a petrol but it takes less time to warm up than the wifes vectra "b". Obviouly the outside temprature makes a difference, in the cold it takes mine about four miles, yet only about two when it is warm weather for the same journey to work.

Hi Ed, Yours is of course a V6, so that maybe generates a bit more heat for a quicker warm-up and of course in the summer, having the AC running (and cooling) will cause extra 'drag' on the engine which again will help it warm-up quicker. Possibly?

Hi Doug. Thats my way of thinking too as i tend to drive like an old man when the engine is cold, I must be getting old now.

Yes, but like me you were brought-up on cars with syrup instead of engine oil (SAE 20-50). When you did an oil change on a cold day you had to stand the gallon can by the fire to warm it up first otherwise it'd take an hour to empty it into the engine. And if that wasn't thick enough for you, then you could always add STP. Thick oil was equated with good oil in those days!
We had to 'nurse' the cars from cold then, since it probably took five minutes before this oil warmed and started to flow freely!!!
POAH, sorry to have hijacked your post - will stop now!!! (We're old now and tend to ramble on and on and on.........and on.....)

After my previous car (2.5V6 Omega), the 3.0 CDTi engine does seem to be a slow warmer-upper. I put it down to the heavier construction of the diesel engine.

Mines a 1.9 & it takes ages to warm up, way longer than a petrol, in fact longer than any car I've owned.
