Default Today i did a radical thing !!

I shortend the piston length in my Egr valve So as to mechanically reduce the amount the Egr valve was open/could open !! I removed approx 4mm.
I refitted & drove the car . No Check engines so far !! Idled Ok & pulled strong, With lots of low down torque..

I'll let you know what it is like after a few Miles

The bit that is arrowed is the part i reduced in length, Mine stuck out further than the one in the Pic as mine was not seized in the solenoid ..

The EGR valve allows exhaust gasses to be recirculated (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) and reburnt to reduce emissions. Basically it is supposed to put unburnt fuel back in, which it does to a point but given the current state of engine management there shouldn't be that much to be reburnt. It kind of works but the engine would work a lot better without it, they much prefer to breath fresh air, especially cold damp air, not hot dry air!

I stripped down the Egr as per the proper method
    http://forum.vectra-c.com/showthread.php?t=45867
I must say, My pin was not seized, But the solenoid body was really full of Soot

Then Hacksawed & filed the pin, Then re-assembled. After 40 Miles of driving it appears to perform Ok, Feeling more torquey, I think this is down to not as much burnt gas entering the combustion chamber low down & the space being filled with Fresh air , as such.

I have not yet driven it from an overnight proper cold start, but i cannot see it being a problem ..
It was not to much of a risk doing this, as i am the proud owner of Two Egr valves for the Cdti 150 Engine

Yes. If fully blocked it will just take the least resistance route, Which is out the exhaust, If partially restricted, Then more Exhaust & less inlet Etc
