    Default Help required (non vectra)

I have a peugeot expert van 1.9d over the last couple of days the engine has started making a rattling, knocking noise, but not all the time, when it happens it only lasts for about 1-2 seconds.
I was wondering if its got a timing chain not belt and if its might be that or if it might be something like the oil pump

Any help would be most welcome.

    Thanks, G.

hi gr4eme these have timing belts and not to easy to get to as they are quite close to the inner wheel arch as to the knocking could be a stick shim which is located in the buckets under the camshaft hope you get it sorted m8

That'll be the crankshaft pulley which is also a crankshaft damper beginning to come apart. Eventually it falls off usually doing a bit of damage on the way!

Get it checked and a new one fitted as soon as you can. I have heard that non-manuafacturer's replacements don't last long so probably best to go for a Pug/Citroen one. Can be pricey though. eBay sometimes has them for sale but check for manufacturer.

Is the knocking as you put you foot down, on the overun, or at tick-over?
