    Default anyone know about computers?

I have recently changed my internet to wireless... I fitted a G+ card into my pc which said it woiuld work at a speed of 108... my router states that it is a 108 too... so im confused why is my speed at its best 54?

secondly my laptop has a card which you fit in the side... a high speed 125! only works at a speed of about 11... any ideas advice would be apreciated...

The cards would only work at maximum speed in "ideal" situations.

Distance and obstacles/walls/furniture etc in the way would cut down the signal and hence the speed.

In any case 11mb is still faster than most broadbands so you wouldn't necessarily get any benefit with G+ cards

The current standard for any wirless link is 54Mbps This is Mega Bits Per Second.
The description 802.11g 54Mbps where 802.11g is the description of a wireless standard, this uses a frequency of 2.4ghz, and 54mbps is the amount of bits of data transfered between the transmitter to the receiver per second.

    Thats keeping it simple

So 54 is good and have you got the 11 bit from the description 802.11g?

wierd thing is mine dont.... work great that is...

my laptop the slower machine seems fine...

this pc with the new card and router keeps cutting out... its so annoying... i spent 45 mins on the phone with sky whilst they run all sorts of tests...

so my question is why would my laptop internet run at one speed (11) and my pc at another (54)

belkin is good for what it normally produces... but in other ways im a firm believer in you get what you pay for... thats why i go to the toilet a lot because i buy tescos own brand beans and thats why ive gone for the wireless with BT... not cheap ill admit but moves quickly..
