Hi Sean, welcome to the site.

I presume you just want to replace the panel filter and don't want an induction kit...

Most people opt for the K&N one, but others can suggest other makes. I have a K&N in my non-direct 2.2 and find it ok! HTH!

    thanks for the welcome mate.

yeah just a panel filter are they better than the induction kits?
will have to pick one up if so.
also do you know if they do a 4 branch mainifold for the direct?

You'll also find many people swear by the standard VX paper filter, too. Whether one type allows greater airflow than another is very debatable, there's quite a few tests on the net, and each one seems to contradict the last.

PS. Don't forget to do the airbox mod (there's a (another) thread about it a few links down from this one), people say it helps with airflow, but even if it doesn't, the car does sound meatier with it done.

    And welcome, btw.

No mate, just pull of the plastic cover where the air enters the box. There is a guide with pics somewhere.

I would personally stay away from the induction kits, they draw in too much hot air, with no benefit other than the noise.

Missed that bit, I am not sure whether the parts that are available for modding the 2.2 fit the non-direct, I think it was established that the 2.4 inlet manifold will not fit, but as for the zorst mani...who knows? They aren't easy to get hold of either way, can be quite expensive!

    to the club Sean.
While doing the airbox mod, you can also fit a GSI air intake pipe which is shorter than the standard Direct intake and only costs about £7 from the dealers.
