    Default Ranty rant rant!!!!!!

So - if I am driving home and the 'lady' behind me who has been weaving all over the road behind for 2 miles and has nearly run into the back of Roger the Rover TWICE because, whilst she is driving, she is also........
    • talking on her phone
    • bu99ering about with her glasses and
    • rooting about in her handbag
.................can I phone the police and report her?!?!?!!??!

I was so mesmerised by whatever random thing she was going to do next that I had to stop looking in my mirror, she was distracting me, let alone what she was doing to her own driving ability!!!

Seriously, to our boys in blue out there - legally, could I have done it? Can you report someone for this kind of thing, or do they have to be caught in the act?

I was pretty tempted to pull her over and make a citizens arrest!!!!

I think notifying the police, would have been good, even though you probally wont catch, but it would be noted, and if in the near furture (next few days) she is pulled for anything, then your report would kick in. Worked for the Criminal Justice Department and saw it all the time

talking on the phone whilst driving and messing with her glasses and going through her bag are all offences for driving without due care. Yeah may not be arrestable but defo summons or fine, or even points

Totally agree but I'm pretty sure it has to be an 'arrestable offence' before you can make a 'citizens arrest'!

I doubt if you could make a 'citizens' arrest' for it as it's a traffic offence - only certain offences come under the scope of allowing citizens' arrests.

You could definitely have rang the police and reported her. I did this once when I came up behind a car on a country road whose driving had be convinced they were drunk. So I rang 999 to report it, followed the car whilst telling the operator where I was - what road, direction etc. - until, fortunately, a patrol car intercepted and stopped them.

Thought you were gonna say ......pulled you over for using a mobile while driving.

    That would be my luck!
