Vectra CDTI Spanner Light-2004

Hi people.
I have a 2004 Vectra SRI CDTI, and last week the spanner light come on whilst I was driving, and stayed on. I turned the car off and restarted about 4 times within the space of 10 mins, but the light still stayed on whilst I was driving.

Then I left the car off for about 2 hours, then when I went to restart the car, the spanner light came on when I put the ignition on, but doesnt stay on when im driving. Since then, it is only coming on when I put the ignition on, it doesnt come on whislt driving.

To the best of my knowledge, it hasnt affected the cars diving ability, and I dont think it has knocked the performance (not in limp home mode).

Can someone help, or advise me how I can find out what the problem is without having it Tech2 tested at Vauxhall?

If its coming on only on ignition means it has a fault stored. It will stay there until x amount of restarts of the car without the fault present think its about 40 ish. Still would get the tech 2 on though at least if ya get the fault code ya can pin point the error. HTH

get it read for peace of mind more than anything. once you know what the fault is you can decide what to do about it,if anything. cost and hasstle of going to the stealers is better than wondering what it is every time you start the car.

Certainly does mate, since then it must have had at least 20 restarts. Whats does it mea when people say "fresh starts"? Totally annoyed me this light did, I only had the car 2-3 days when it come, and then straight to the Stealers!!!! If it stays on, what could it be though? Is this a serious problem?

Thats very true oil burner, but like you said, its just the hassle isnt it.

Just had another thought....could it be something to do with the servicing? The reason I ask this is that I know the car was serviced about 6-8k ago, but when I keep the counter reset pressed and switch the ingition on, it comes up with INSP but doesnt tell me how many miles left, also if I keep it helpd further, after the INSP message it simply has blank line through it: ------, does this mean a service due?

No.

Again no. It means that you've reset your service interval.

You can only get the mileage left till next service if your car is set to ECOService-Flex service intervals, and with the trip pressed with ignition turned off.

For peace of mind, get the fault code(s) read out (while the fault is still logged) instead of pressing buttons willy nilly.

It beginning to sound like a trip to the dealers hey! ******. Ive also seen on ebay a service light reset/fault code reader, its the ODB2 orange thing, would anyone recommend buying one of these as I have 2 Vectra's and always stick to VX's. Thanks.

What a great forum, exactly as quoted, after about 40 ish starts, the light has dissappeared on ignition...still will get it put on a tech2 tester to be sure, but its just pleasing when you dont see it blinging in front of you everytim you start the car. Im going to get it checked anyway, BUT does it mean that the problem has now gone? Or has it just got sick of telling me?

First of all would like to thank all those who have tried to help. I took it to VX on Saturday and had a Tech2 done on it, good news, it came up with NO DTC DETECTED. Touch wood it will stay like that!
