Default Need some advice about my Signum...

Around a month ago, I bought a 54 plate Signum 2.0T Petrol. It's a beautiful car inside and out. I've gone from a Ford Ka to this. But I've got a few questions about it now I've learnt how it feels and drives...

    1. The suspension is very hard, and the front shocks squeak when I go over speed bumps. (Like the sound of an creeking old wooden sail ship in pirate movies!!) Is that normal and can you get it softened?

    2. I don't know if I'm just getting used to the car now, but it feels like its lost a lot of power and I find it difficult to get it from 1st to 2nd Gear without a cruch/grinding noise unless I do it very very very slowly, 3rd to 2nd is fine. It was only serviced at 54K and it' s now touching 58K.

    3. As its approaching 60K and 4 years, is it wise to get the Cambelt (or is it Timing belt??) replaced, and how much is it likely to cost? What else should I look at getting replaced?

Any help or advice would be great guys and girls! Much appreciated!

1: its the front anti roll bar bushes. Get them changed You do not say what model you have, but if its a design, then yes the suspension is harder as it has the "sports" set up.

2: Lost power? in what way? have you just got used to it? The gearboxes are fairly notchy until they warm up, but after that they are fine.

3: its a timing chain, as long as it doesn't rattle its fine. Just keep up the oil changes.

    hth
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

    1. The Signum design has lowered and stiffened sports suspension, so it should give a slightly harder ride than standard suspension. The creaking sound points to a problem with suspension components but I do not know enough to advise you further. There are plenty others on here who can though.

    2. Don't know although it doesn't appear right. Some 'notchiness' going into first especially when the engine is cold is quite normal for the 2.0T.

3.The 2.0T has a cam CHAIN which should last the life of the engine. I believe you would hear a rattle or similar noise if it needs attention.

Thanks, it is the Design model, so I shouldn't need to change my cam-chain. Great. So is it possible to soften her up a little or is that just madness?
