hi all since buying my vauxhall Vectra i have had a catalogue of faults and recall items to contend with.
what i would like to know is.... do you find that vauxhall have let their guard down in the design and production of the vectra and signum range of cars.
heres what i have found to be of annoyance.
1) the recall issues what is deemed to be faulty and what is not (but should be)
ie:- these parts are known to fail and have been added to a recall list
alternator failure , exhaust pipe coming apart , rear axel hub barings , heated washer nozzle way short out , rear seat belt may not hold in a accident and now the hand break which can slip due to user error (they claim!)
i have had loads of other cars that never rolled away due to the hand break not being applyed correctly so why now (not that my car has rolled yet as i park in gear)
2)the glass engine /gearbox issues
it seems like there is a good few components that commonly fail on the latest engines and they all cost alot of cash to sort out.
we will start with the 2.2 with the stretching timing chain (these ares supposed to last for ever and a day
on the 1.9 cdti you have the swirl valve failure that leaves you in limp mode, the egr valve that cruds up or corrodes on the shaft that moves the valve, the duel mass flywheel failure also the timing belt tensioner failure.
just to add to the misery is the suspension problems like the front drop links knocking, the springs knocking (needing a rubber pad to fix this one)
on the rear wheels the boomerang rear wheel stabiliser arms and rubber bushes are prone to failure and then there is the early corrosion and failure of the vx shockers.
all this leaves me thinking vauxhall have lost touch with reality and got someone who gets the bus to work or rides a bicycle to throw a few euro cheap parts together.
apart from all of the above i love my vectra even though she is high maintainence so what do you think ?...... baz
