Myringoplasty

Had it done today.

Repair of the eardrum, by patching the hole with membrane from somewhere else.

General anesthetic too.

Can't hear anything with the repaired ear, as it's packed with cotton wool etc.

Had the same thing (kind of) whenI was younger a gromit that was put in my ear had not come out, so they cut it out thinking tiny hole would heal, few years later having problems and found hole not healed, took skin from under ear and covered hole, had stitching round the ear where they peeled it forward (sorry if bit graphic) and then packed ear tight with cotton wool etc. Really weird sensation when they took this out, the stitching was easy part then the wadding. All ok now, so fingers crossed yours will be fine as well.

Only got 2 stitches and no pulling of ear either. They took a piece of membrane from a muscle just above the ear and then patched over the hole in the ear drum.

Feels really packed, quiet and weird on that side. Best bit about it is that they think the packing will need removing in 3 WEEKS time. I dare bet it doesn't last one week with me. The stitches come out next Wednesday.
