    Default 2.0T Exhaust Q's

Right in a pickle of what to do here. I'm pushing to get stage 3 on my vec, but I'm going to do it in bits rather than all at once due to the cost of it all and each mod will give me something to enjoy.

The downpipe for Stage 3 is 3" with the sports cat and the cat back exhaust from Jetex is 2.5". I'm pondering whether to get an exhaust made up rather than buy the Jetex one at £522 as it would be cheaper.

First thing is the Jetex exhaust has a centre box fitted, what is the purpose of the centre box? Is it purely for sound and does it restric the gas flow a great deal? Wouldn't mind removing it if it will improve performance, but the noise factor plays a big roll as well with a young child in the car.

Secondly the exhaust is 2.5" and the downpipe 3". Would there be any problems having the exhaust bore 3" to match the downpipe? My thinking is that it would provide better gas flow, but I'm no expert. Would this bring problems with back pressure etc?

Going to go to an exhaust specialist at some point and annoy the hell out of them with all my Q's and see what they come up with. Noticed Maz hasn't been on in a while either as he would have been able to answer everything.

    Any input appreciated guys

I have the same idea as u Mark, stage 3 2 much all in 1 go so i put on a Bastuck system which has 73mm bore full system with no middle box,it,s not noisey at all and fits perfectly but a bit pricer than the jetex!I had a magnex full system on before this,a bit noisey, but the Bastuck 1 feels more powerful due to the larger bore!

Yeah, i'd ring Maz. Plasma and Soulman are pleased with their systems.
He's 2/3rds the price aswell ! So few quid to the next stage.

You shouldnt need the box at all on a turbo car just depends on whether you can live with it or not.

Best to see a specialist really about sizes etc.

Yep had a search around and found out that the centre box is mainly for sound tuning and not needed, so it's effectively the same as the rear boxes.

Could also see about getting a removable centre box and then I can have the best of both worlds when I choose even if it is a PITA.

If you get it custom made you should get a side exit exhaust with no centre box and you'll probably get flames coming out the lot!

Had a side exit on a 5 once and when dropping speed but no gas flames would fly out! ha ha brings back some fun memorys.

Been looking at the same thing myself too. One of my back boxes has a small split in it so i went to my local longlife dealer. I said i wanted i cat back system for now but later want a sports cat & manifold. They said no problem they do a sports cat for £300. Thats just for the cat itself though, they said they can make up a manifold to suite. There are three sizes of pipe they use for the system, can't remember what they were at the mo but suggested using the largest size for what i want to do in the long run. They also do ram air filters, they look like a large can made of carbon fiber priced at £180 fitted & they also said they do remaps too which cost £350 by angel tunning.... not had time to look into this though but if you have a longlife center near you i would pop down & have a chat they were very helpful, hope this helps mate

Just remember boys that the stage 3 software will be tuned to work with a perticular exhaust and if you start changing the bore or backpressure characteristics then it may not perform as you hoped ......Just a thought !!!!

    Back in a V6 !!!!!!!!!!!! And lovin it !!!

Mark have a chat with Alan jones at jetex!! Got my exhaust for something like £450 can't remember exactly. The centre box is there to reduce noise.I got a stainless tube with adaptor with the exhaust to replace centre box if you wanted a bit more noise.HTH
