    Default vauxhall over the years

This thread is aimed at the member,s who have owned various vauxhall,s over the years.
I seem to be getting the impression that vx cars are not as reliable now as they once were . It seems to be a daily occurence of someone 1.9cdti giving up the ghost
I for my part have had my signum 2.0dti for just over a year with no problems at all, prior to that i had a R plate 2.0sri vectra b for 8 years which gave me hardlly any trouble at all , and prior to that a series of cavalier b,s and c,s which again no noticeable problems.
i would be interested to hear of anyone else who has had a similar motoring history to mine , and to hear what they think of the latest batch of offering from vx . Obviously vx are not alone in this its well known that mercedes took a huge dive in build quality during the late nineties and early naughty,s and as for fords pa! would not touch one with a barge pole, so there you go guys lets hear your views.

    regards bob

My other vx cars have been a 1989 2.0l gls cav that ran like dream but rotted away,Then a 1994 2.0l 16 cav with the ecotec engine this was a load of trouble from leaking cylinder head to squeeky seat, but at least it did not suffer from a rust problem. The 1999 2.5 sri vec b was no trouble at all 80000 miles of carefree motoring,The present car has been problem free too, touch wood !!!!

    I've had:

L-reg Cavalier Colorado 1.8 saloon which was faultless (apart from a split driveshaft boot which was easily fixed).

S-reg Vectra B 1.8 as a company car which never went wrong despite the hard life it had.

X-reg Vectra B 2.0DTi which had the usual fuel leak off pipes, a split vac hose, a new MAF sensor and anti-roll bar bushes.

And the current 05 plate thats had a modified oil pump, two sets of rear main oil seals, anti-roll bar bushes, a new tailgate handle and I think it currently needs the cambelt rollers done as they appear to have got noisy and possibly a new middle section to the exhaust. Not good for 28k miles...

So yes, I'd say that in my experience they've got worse but I suppose thats to be expected due to all the technology they put in and the trimming of costs in order to keep the profit up in the current climate!

Ok lads not much of a list but here goes.

1994 calibra v6 well over 100k on the clock had it for 3 years and the only problem i had with it was the gearbox let go but it was on the 1/4 mile strip so it was my own fault i did drive her hard all the time lol.

2001 vectra b sri 150 2.2l had it for just over a year also no probs with it apart from brake discs and pads 65k on the clock when traded in.

2004 vectra 1.9 cdti 150 which i have at present had it almost a year and been brill so far touch wood

First VX was a 1.6 L Cavalier, H reg and had 98K on it when I sold it. Had wishbones done for the MOT and leaking rocker cover gasket was changed. Cambelt went due to water pump and got through 3 exhausts.

Second was an 02 plate Vectra B f/l 2.0 DTI. Steering knuckle joint done twice (then I gave up), brakes failed which took 4 vac pumps and a new servo to sort out, intake pipe from intercooler came off for fun, leak off pipes changed twice, pin in door hinge came half way out, problematic fuel pump was cleaned/overhauled every couple of months. All up to 44k miles.

Current 03 Vec C 1.8 SRI - rear shocks and coil pack at 68k miles

So in my case VX's have got a lot better !

In my family, for some time it was all Vauxhall, Last count between My Dad and his, 9 Cavaliers - 1 Kickdown cable on an early 1.6 GL, 1 Engine on a crap 1.7TD. 1 Carlton - Did its head gasket, Ended up back at the factory, 1 Calibra 2.0 8v, refuses to die despite being owned by a student, Then my Vectra - Pup and now my Signum.

As for Merc quality falling, Guess what my Dad's just bought and so far, it's been brilliant.

Ive had a 1995 Astra Mk3 1.4 8v Arizona(irmscher kitted), needed only a head gasket, still going strong with near 150k when I seen it last at a vauxhall meet.

2000 Astra SXi 1.8 (irmscher kitted) needed new rear calipers

2004 Vectra SRi 150 CDTi, Only have had it 2 months but nothing to report, touch wood!
