    Default Dealers or Stealers?

I understand that all Dealers have to make money, but at what cost?

I tried to book my car in for a few faults this morning -

    1. Excessive noise at drivers door (field remedy available)
    2. Exhaust fumes in cabin again
    3. Possible leaking rear shocks

This is how the conversation went -

Vx - 'I'm going to have to charge you £60 just to look at it Sir'

Me - 'But the car is still under the manufacturers warranty and the Network Q warranty doesn't run out until 12/02/2006'.

Vx - 'I realise that Sir, but if the work is covered under warranty you won't get charged'

Me - 'What's the point of having warranties if you guys try and worm out of fixing the car gratis. And don't call me Sir, I work for a living'

Vx - 'sorry Si.., but it's policy. Our hands are tied'

Me - 'Put me through to the Service Manager, then please'

Vx - 'I don't know if he has someone with him'

Me - 'Put me through to Gordon Stuttard then'

Vx - 'But he's our Business Manager Sir, he won't be able to help you'

Me - 'Yes I know, he's my Best Man, just put me through please'

Vx - 'OK' (re-directs my call)

Gordon - 'eh up bud what's up'

Me - 'why have I got to pay 60 quid just to have my car looked at' (explains conversation I've just had with kno8head in service department).

Gordon - 'Let me speak with the Service Manager' (puts me on hold)

Gordon - 'Sorted mate, they'll waiver the charge'

Me - 'Top man, I owe you one'

Why should it take this. Dealers really **** me off!!!

I've found in the past that speaking to the sales person who sold you the car will often get results. They know about customer care and retention and know that if they help you, you are much more likely to come back and buy your next car from them. They just can't help themselves when it comes to their monthly sales figures and commision cheques...

Yeah i made a point of mentioning to my salesman the reason why i was travelling past my local dealer to come to him for better service and he assured me the service there was top notch. I'm not naive enough to think that he wasn't just telling me what i wanted to hear, but i will be hounding him out first time i have to take the car in if the service isn't top notch. Providing he still works there of course.

I got the same story with my headlamp, £60 to look at it and if it`s a warranty claim it is waivered. Well how do I know if it`s a warranty claim I asked, well we will tell you, But it will cost you £60.00 !!! Told them to stuff it. how can it be a warranty if you have to pay for them to look at it, doesn`t make any sense ...

Surely they are legally obliged to look at the car without charging you to look at it if the car is still within its warranty period? For them to do this, they must surely have to provide you with a definiative list of what and what isnt covered under warranty, so you can decide for yourself? I think a call to your local trading standards may be in order as they arent trading fairly. They are not giving you option. If you want you car fixed under warranty, you have to pay £60, which you then get waivered? Theres nothing in my warranty papers (which is part of the buying contract) that says anything like that.

I had a problem with the land rover garage where my car was scratched..they said they didnt ..I said they did, and yes they did f*****g did scratch it...twice!!!! however they fixed it but did a really s***e job, so the missus and me went to see the salesman who sold me the car he said it was very poor repairs and would sort it out. he sorted within a week had a top of range courtesy car, full of fuel (not when it went back!!!) grovelling apologies from various managers and I got a brand new £70 land rover fleece into the bargain, So if in doubt shout at the guy who sold you the car...OR better still let the wife do it, when havin pms.....
