That's right folks you hear it here first, you can block off the EGR valve on the 1.9CDTI without any trouble from the ECU... If you have it remapped first to stop the EGR comming on

Still it does show that if Vauxhall wanted to sort this problem out, even just in the short term while they wait for more valves; they could make a cheap gasket and knock out a software revision to disable the EGR.

I guess Vx just like to see people suffering?

Well I've been out thrashing the car about to get it hot and driving it through all rpms and loads to make sure that the gasket would be exposed to heat/pressure if the EGR was opening. I then took the EGR off again to see if the gasket was still intact and if there were any signs of carboning. The results are an massive success! So everyone with a dodgy EGR, ring Vx and ask them why they can't do the same while you wait for a part!

Although, you might want to get Vx to make you one out of something other than a Dr Pepper can

Well dome Nutron. The Field remedy for the z22se EGR is just to turn it off via tech 2 and blank it of with a VX blanking plate. There is a part number for the plate, you never know it might fit the CDTi. There's a guy on the 2.2 forum who makes a cheater so we can disable it ourselves for a tenner.

Isn't the 2.2 the same as the old Y20DTH, in that it uses a vacuum to open and close the EGR? The one on my Vectra-B was a completly different shape and the Dr Pepper gasket is holding fine

I wonder what else I can block off?

Mine is just bolted to the blanking plate, so that it can open into the atmosphere, i.e. open and close as normal, but no gases pass through it!

Didn't have any reprogramming done, and was no problem!!
