confused Why pay for an extended warranty?

I've owned my vectra for around three months now. When I bought it from the main Vauxhall dealers in Dundee(not naming them but i think people can guess who i'm talking about) I
also payed for an extended warranty for piece of mind.

Now I'm starting to think that its not worth the paper its printed on. I went into the branch today to ask about some work i need done.

1, The fabric on the rear of the passenger seat is dropping leaving huge hole(which they said was repaired when i bought the car)

...Get this....The service man asked me if i'd like an estimate for getting it retrimed. I quickly told him that i would not be paying for it and it was covered by the warranty.

2, The N/S/F fog lamp is misting up and is repeatedly throwing up bulb errors in the dash

the reply i got was, we'll not replace a fog lamp under warranty. I insisted they would as it has been like that since i bought the car and was mentioned when i bought the car and nothing was done about it.

3, Strange clunking sound from the front as the car goes over a speed bump

Didn't seem to get much of a reply on that one, except they will book the car in next wed to investigate the problems.

I feel like i'm being treated like a crook who is trying to rip them off when all i want is my car sorted. I mean i've got better things to do than rip my seats on purpose or damage seals in my fog lamp just to try and rip them off.

I'm really disapointed in the way i have been treated by this dealership from day one and if i don't get my car sorted out, i'll be making a call to trading standards.

I'll let you know what happens on wed.

Dealer warranty vs VX 60k 3yr one, sorry to tell you this mate but you've been had, they will try to tell you nothing is wrong or it's not covered, so go see the top bloke at the garage and say to him...I've had a few issues with the car, if the warranty isn't going to sort it out then I'd like a refund on the warranty so I can either go elsewhere or use the money to repair the things that you wont.

I'm not a fan of extending warranties anyway, mainly due to the exclusions lists (sometimes not exhaustive), and that you are effectively paying more for the privilege.

tell them it is a legal requirement that all lights fitted work, and you will point that out to trading standards as they have sold you the car "not fit for purpose" the clunking noise is the anti roll bar bushes by the sounds of it. think your on a loser about the seat but i'm sure if you check out your local yellow pages there should be a local company that car do upolstary repairs....prob better than vx. HTH and good luck....i'm having a lot of nightmares with stealers at the minute also....E.H.

Was the Warranty the dealers own (er, would that be Arnold Clark), a Network Q warranty, an extenstion of the original VX warranty, or some other warranty agreement?

I have taken out an extended warranty out on every car I have owned, due to the high mileage I cover
VX warranties are about the best
Third party warranties usually only pay for failed items and their associated labour, so check the contract and small print

I thought front fogs are not part of the mot therefore doesn't matter if they work or not ?

Correct, front fogs are not part of the MOT inspection, and therefore legally don't have to work.

This warranty is pretty limited and covers only the items listed in the policy
The way round this, as I assume you were at the water front branch in Dundee which is a VX dealership, is to ask to purchase the car on Network Q
It may not have been, but you are the customer
I have done that with several VX cars from their VX dealerships
    Lesson learnt really
Once the paperwork arrives for your Network Q vehicle it will include details for extending the warranty, and it is cheaper to buy it direct from Network Q rather than the dealership (you can also pay monthly interest free)
