Default Insurance quote, what ya reckon?

It' time to shop round for insurance quotes for my Vectra, but i'm now finally declaring the mods.

As most of you know i've made quite a few changes and they are as follows:

Vectra 1.8 VVTi SRi Nav 2006

    VXR Front bumper
    VXR Tailgate spoiler
    VXR Alloys
    Stainless Steel MIJ Performance exhaust
    Side skirts
    Rear skirt
    Lowered 15mm

    Also have 6 points, 2 SP30's.

Current quote from Chris Knott with a company called Highway Insurance, fully comp with £250 excess is £445.

Will be getting more quotes through the day but what d'ya think? Good or not?

Thing is with mods, and I'm not saying you should do this.

However, things like VXR bodykits, do you really have to declare it. I know legally you should, but, here is a senario.

Vauxhall have a stock pile of Vectra's in stock that they want to sell on before year end. Someone in the marketing dept says, hey let's put 19" wheels on them and throw a few VXR body goodies on them.

Suddenly the car is not original spec, however, it left the showroom like it............ Factory fitted....... VXR bodykit you'd probably get away with.

Do it. Save £50 and then find yourself uninsured when it goes belly up.

    Not worth it IMHO.

Work this out. Called Lancaster Insurance as i have my Opel Manta insured with them and they went the exact same route and went through to the same company, Highway.

They've come back with a quote of £765 with £650 excess!!!!!!

Had to think about it for a millisecond and basically said 'Up yours pal'.

Anything that makes a car more appealing or 'nickable' is likely to attract an additional insurance premium. Better safe than sorry.

Yep, declare everything, i`ve been stung in the past on a bike ! ... I had a few companies wouldn`t insure my new leon, including the one who insured the vxr ??? because it has a host of factory fit options on it, but in the end I have insured it with autotrader for 230 notes, thats with 6 points + 3 which are due to come off ...

Yeh, some insurance companies go ape$hit if you have what they deem to be a powerful car and more than 3 penalty points, and can either refuse to insure you or load up the premium, protected no claims cost and policy excess. £200 (30%) extra for a remap - now that's taking the pi$$.

Just a thought - it's a good idea to mention anything you've changed from the published spec of the car, even if it does not attract additional premium, such as a plain Irmy front grille.

Ah well, after loads of phone calls to numerous insurance companies, the best quote i had was the first one which was through Chris Knott for £445.

The one good thing about this policy, is that they do a 'Like for Like' on the parts i've fitted so god forbid i have a bump, if i did happen to damage the VXR front bumper then they would replace it with another VXR bumper, not an SRi one, etc, etc.

Some companies couldn't even match this quote before i'd even listed all the changes, so i'm quite happy. The main thing is, at least all mods are now declared so my ar$e is covered.
