    Default Laser Eye Surgery

Simple here guys - as above, anyone had it done?

Thinking of having it done, eyes aren't that bad at all, but would be nice to not have to worry about glasses etc...

    Opinions would be much appreciated...

    Cheers

If there working fine then what is the need lol, seems a waste of time if you dont really need it.

Thats like going outside with an umbrella on a sunny day just in case it rains

Ok, I am short sighted, it's just not overly bad. I wear glasses for everyday use, and need them legally for driving. I've also recently started my Private Pilot's License and it would make things a lot easier in the future...

Just after any opinions and info from people who've had it done...

I'm having it done on Saturday morning, had the consultation today.

Just be careful on the cheaper ones as they don't use Intralase, which means they still use the blades to cut the Cornea and not a fine laser.

I'm going into Ultralase to get mine done, they are slightly more expensive, but use Intralase and the after care is fantastic.

Penfold, check about pilot's license, I'm sure you are ok if you are not going for commercial.

I know loads of people, including my girlfriend who have had it done and don't look back (bad pun!).

I'm fed up of contact lenses and can't wait to get it done. I'll report back on, er, Monday, as I can't use a PC for 2 days after!

Cheers Craig, will be glad to hear the results... I'm going to get in touch with the CAA about it, as they've done studies into itbefore as there were so many people doing it, and I am hoping to go down the commercial route eventually...

Nice choice of car too btw...

My mate had it done a couple of years ago. We still call him Magoo-he really was that blind without his glasses on but it's the best thing he ever did and has totally changed his life!

Go for it even if you just do one at a time in case you're worried!

I've had a PPL for about 20 years and have stuck with glasses. I have a few ATPL holder friends who also wear glasses. Whenever the laser correction debate starts up, none of them would take the risk of messing around with their vision.

The only person I know who had this done rates the results quite highly - except for night vision, she thinks the surgery made this worse with a 'halo' round bright lights.

You might try posting on PPRUNE - you'll probably get some good responses there

I'm very badly short sighted and have considered this, but with most places charging nearly 400 quid an eye, and the chance of them going back to the way they are now i'm not really sure if there is any point. My left eye is -3.0 and my right -2.75, i haven't a clue what that means but without my contacts i can see next to nothing........

Have you tried contacts mate? I pay a tenner a month for them and they make a big difference

I wear glasses sometimes, although I can legally drive without them.

Having laser correction has been something that I have considered, but have yet to take up the opportunity, mainly due to the fact that your eyes can never be replaced should anything go wrong. Yes, things very rarely go wrong with it, BUT.......
Blind isn't something I would like to become.
