    Default Insurance excess

When i renew my insurance policy i usually put the excess to around £300 as i would rather risk paying more excess to get a lower renewal price.

    What do others do?

depends on what the policy price is compared to the one i am renewing it against.. i usually tend to go for a lower xs, but always up it and lower it to see what difference it makes in the policy..

I just changed my insurance from Norwich Union to M&S premier, saved £180.00 got RAC Homestart cover included and reduced my excess from £320.00 to £150.00 at the same time, pays to shop around a bit.

I get as many quotes as I can for various excesses
I prefer to pay as little as possible with as small an excess as possible, preferably a nil excess

Last year I managed to get :
    £730 with a £300 excess (£150 accident, £60 glass)
    £730 with a nil excess (£150 accident, £50 glass)

Don't just compare the price, but the entire package
