    Default Vectra Reliability

I've just bought a 07 plate Vectra C 1.8 SRi with 12000miles on the clock. I like the look of the car but am concerned by all the negative reviews the car gets on the internet.
I'm planning on keeping the car five years but not sure if it will last.
How good is the build quality?
Already I have noticed small things like mist inside the N/S fog lamp, Small amount of play on the steering wheel and the handbrake has popped off twice!!
However I love the performance and economy so hope i have not made a mistake in buying one.

I had problems with my old 2.2 DTi SRi, I now own a Signum. Never before have I stuck with the same range of cars when it was time to change.

The Signum has been fantastic in 7 months and 20000 miles.

Had my 1.8 Sri since september
not had one problem bar rear shocks needing to be changed
i think all marques have inherent problems, VX ones are little things,
misty fog lights i can deal with etc

Drive and enjoy and dont worry s the best bet

There is some luck involved as you can get a goodun' or a badun' LOL like most cars.

My 03 1.8 has had the rear shocks done and the coil pack changed, that's all in 68k miles.

Keep up the maintenance and fix anything that happens quickly and you should be ok for years.

With regard to the actual build quality, it's very very good IMO for a car of this class and price - they are put together very well and I have always thought the Vectra C has a quality feel about it.

Do a search for the fog light, that's quite a common problem and if it passes the Vauxhall 20 min test it's still quite easy to fix yourself

I wouldn't worry about what others say on the net. Certain cars have had problems but my Sri is now 2 years old and the only thing to go was the wiper motor, quick simple repair under warranty. They are lovely cars, sit back and enjoy

So far the 1.8 VVT engine seems to be bullet proof....no inherent faults yet in 3 years that its been out.

Thanks for all the replies, much appreciated!
I've always been a car enthusiast and end up spending a small fortune on all the cars I've had so far on various from servicing to modifications.
My previous two cars in the last 5 years have been two e39 BMW's, a 523 se and a 530 Sport.
I bought the vectra in January to save money on petrol and servicing costs and so far I am delighted!
The vectra is obviously not as quick as my previous cars but is plenty quick enough for me.
Some people say the gear change is notchy but I disagree. It has a very smooth gear change from first to second, even smoother than the 530 that had a dreaded (CDV) clutch delay valve which took years to get used to, causing the car to lurch when changing gear!
I've just got a VXR grill mesh and V grill, and plan to get the chrome bezel signum foglight surrounds and a VX front spoiler.
Pictures to follow in the next week or so!

12K miles is nothing on a Vectra, and it's the kind of mileage I buy most of my cars at
Ideally, you can haggle to have the cars first service carried out also at this point

I am now on my second Vectra and like the Vectra B the Vectra C seems to suffer the same inherent issues...
My Vectra B went through two tailgate locks and my Vectra C is now on its second
The EcoTec X20XEV 2.0 suffered dreadful erratic idling from 70K miles, going through two EGR valves and no matter how many times it was in at VX the problem was never fully erradicated, although cleaning the EGR valve did help
Premature cambelt failures are also well documented, most intervals are launched at 80K miles but more often than not revised down to 40K miles, the main problem appears to be the material the rollers and/or their bearings are made from
