car tax ? can anyone explain ?

ok im looking at either a 1.9 cdti or another 2.0 t or even a gsi but i carnt for the life of me get my head around the new car tax rules, does anyone know when the rules come into effect is it cars from 08 only ? i dont want to pay £400 a year for a 3.2 gsi tax ?

cars with a certain engine size before a certain date at certain price, but its all confusing now as it on engine emissions so as far a i can gather a 3.2 v6 petrol will cost £400 a year

Jeez, stay with the cheaper option then of 1.9 cdti or a 2.0 turbo, i didnt realise it would be that much for a 3.2 =0

so in simple geordie monday morning terms will all cars be subject to this change or is there a date / reg of car which will not be effected by these changes ?

All explained in the table I posted in the link John did above - only applies to cars registered after March 2001. Cars before that are taxed simply on engine size, of which they have two groupings.

cheers duncan ( cars before / after march 2001 is the important bit as too many conflicting ideas from sellers as to the date this tax applies)

That's why i'm thinking of selling my fuel efficient, low polluting 1.8 VVTi 06 plate Vectra and running my non-fuel efficient, high polluting, bigger engined 1984 2.0 Opel Manta cos it's cheaper to tax!!!!!!
