Default Initial Information and Member list

Ive had a querie regarding Belguim next year so thought i would start the ball rolling.

The show (called 'Treffen;s in Belgium) we are going to attend is organised by the Opel Drivers Club, Belgium. The date is 12/13/14 May 2006, location Lochristi, near Gent.

I have been to this show in 2000 where we took 12 cars from the, then, VPCC. We had a fantastic time but there are a few things you need to know before adding your name. Im not intending to put you off but its a long way to go and i want to ensure everyone knows what to expect.

Firstly, its organised by a car club, not a promotional company, so there are no big trade stand areas, or half naked women walking around handing you carrier bags full of leaflets etc. Its a show run by enthusiasts, for enthusiasts.

I expect we will be the only english people there. Not a bad thing, as we come across as something new to look at and our cars tend to recieve a lot of attention, just like theres do when they come to Billing etc.

Its a small show. Comparing it to the likes of Billing or Trax etc is like chalk and cheese. In its basic form, its a load of opel owners from a number of different clubs parked up in a field. Some cars are amazing, some not so amazing.

As we are there for the weekend, camping is the basic option. We could seek out a nearby hotel if you wish. Personally i'd prefer the latter as the food stalls are very limited, ie one. As long as we are together then we will have a laugh.

Entertainment is provided by a large marquee, used as a beer tent which is open all day and into the early hours.

There are portable showers provided, and porta loo's. If you have been to a festival you will know what to expect, if you havent, you will certainly appreicate your own bathroom when you get back home.

The Opel club generously run competitions and give away trophies in a presentation on the sunday. Everything from best car of each type to furthest traveled can win a prize.

As soon as photo's go up on the opel clubs webiste i'll provide a link.

Also, My wife has started the ball rolling with us moving house so i am looking for a 'deputy' to organise this alongside me, incase my house move means i cant go.

Travel arrangements we can sort nearer the time, but depending on who is coming it may be easier if we meet on the other side of the pond. Ferry prices range from £200 for an overnight cabin / car from Hull, to £80 for 1.5hr quick crossing from Dover.

so, lets have a list of who is wanting to go

To be honest, if i am able to go, then i'll be sailing from Hull and having an overnight crossing. Driving down to Dover, 1.5hr crossing, then driving another 2 hours on the other side is very tiring. The killer is the journey back, seems to take twice as long and seem twice as far.
I'd much rather have a few beers on the ferry and something nice to eat, bit of kip and dropped the other side with only a few hours driving.

I want to make this trip, but I'll need to run it passed my better half first. I'll add my name to the list for now if that's OK.

im still looking for someone to help me sort this in case i cant go, if theres any volunteers? Will need to start drawing a line under it soon, certainly by end of feb so people can get Ferries/channel tunnel booked at decent rates and in groups etc. Also, thoughts on accommodation needs agreeing.
